Castle: Where the Cast is Today (2025)

Between 2009 and 2016, Castle was the talk of the town. Starring Nathan Fillion as the dashing best-selling author Rick Castle and Stana Katic as the serious Detective Kate Beckett, the comedy-detective show was a hit. Rick, or, as Kate refers to him, Castle, was in a rut with his writing, and after being questioned by the police, he used his popularity to become a consultant alongside the reluctant Detective Beckett. Castle lived with his teenage daughter, whom he doted on and protected from the dangers of the world in a healthy way. His mother also lived with him as a Broadway star who had yet to be discovered.

Kate is tough and does not like having a writer tag along with her. Yet, when her fellow detectives, Ryan and Esposito, are stuck, Castle swoops in with a theory or connection that can help the team catch a killer. Though Kate finds Castle insufferable, Ryan and Esposito have a fraternity brother bond. One person who seems to be on Beckett’s side is her best friend and coroner to the NYPD, Dr. Lanie Parish. With a healthy dose of gruesome scenes, humor, and sometimes a musical number, Castle’s success won many accolades. Opportunities for the actors tend to follow these accolades. As such, here's where the cast of Castle is today.

Stana Katic

Since Castle ended, Stana Katic appeared in several projects like Sister Cities and Lost in Florence, though one project stands out: the Amazon Prime series Absentia. Katic plays FBI Agent Emily Byrne who, as seen in the trailer here, was thought to be dead for six years until her alleged murderer revealed she was alive. In addition to being alive, Emily has no recollection of her previous six years and struggles to readjust to her previous life. Additionally, Katic's most recent project was voicing Wonder Woman in the animated feature Justice Society: World War II.

Nathan Fillion

Even during Castle, Nathan Fillion was quite busy with other films and TV shows. In addition to being a regular on Robot Chicken, he’s starred in a variety of popular series like Modern Family and Resident Alien. His most recent role was in ABC’s The Rookie, where he played John Nolan. According to Good Housekeeping, ABC announced the spin-off The Rookie: Feds, starring Niecy Nash, which will feature Fillion reprising his role as John.

Detective Esposito (Jon Huertas) is the first to accept a party invitation from his colleague, Rick Castle. Since then, Huertas has starred in several shorts and the hit drama series This is Us as Miguel Rivas. He also joined Fillion on The Rookie for one episode, just like Quinn. Next, Huertas will star alongside Kate Beckinsale in Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight)’s film Prisoner’s Daughter. The film is slated to be a drama centering on a dying convict attempting to connect with his family, and will premiere at TIFF 2022.

Seamus Dever

Castle: Where the Cast is Today (6)

The most starstruck by his colleague Rick Castle’s glamorous life, Detective Ryan (Seamus Dever) is usually behind Detective Esposito in accepting party invitations. Since Castle ended, Dever has appeared on several shows like MacGyver, Titans, and The Rookie. He also appeared in a short called Awaken. In a report from Deadline, Invitation to a Murder will star Mischa Barton in the mystery thriller, with Dever slated to star as well.

Tamala Jones

Castle: Where the Cast is Today (7)

As the NYPD coroner Dr. Lanie Parish, Tamala Jones portrays the friend Kate Beckett needs when she’s being a bit stubborn. Jones has starred in a variety of hit TV shows like SEAL Team, L.A.’s Finest, and 9-1-1: Lone Star. Like her former co-stars on Castle, she appeared on The Rookie, but for two episodes instead of one. Her next project is the Showtime series The Wood, which is reportedly based on the 90s film of the same name, starring Omar Epps and Taye Diggs.
